Initial Presentation Ideas.

Below, are 2 mood boards showing decaying and abandoned buildings.
The abandoned building is the essential part within the storyline, therefore I want my presentation to reflect this.

 Taking inspiration from these mood boards, I feel that I would like to enhance the distressed and uneven mood to my photographs. I am particularly drawn to the object of wood and how it can create an edgy atmosphere. Below are initial sketches on how I want to present my work.

This sketch explains what my frames will be made of. It also explains the dimensions for each photograph. After finalising my final pieces, I will work around the photograph to create the frame. I will take spare parts of wood and cut them according to the size of each photograph. To attach them, I will hammer in nails to seal the parts together to make a square frame. Next to this sketch, I have taken my set of final pieces and put a rough guideline of the sizes of each. These will all range between A5 to A3. I paired each photograph up with another based on the topics and then I decided on the size of both of them, making them different sizes. This is so that it creates an uneven and 'broken' look to the presentation reflecting what is present within the photographs.

This sketch is the show the difference between sizes, and how the photographs will all work together. This is not accurate, however, it gives me a slight idea about how the piece will be composed. The smaller boxes represent A5 size, the large boxes, A3 and the medium, A4. Along with this, I have drawn elements linking each photograph together. I intend to use dead leaves, branches, bricks, rubble, placing these around each frame and in-between. This is to relate to the storyline of the novel and also enhancing the rough and distressed look that I want to achieve.
Presentation Experiment;

Here, I made up an A5 prototype of the frames that I wanted to create. This is an experimental piece, in which I will create the full design to give me an idea on how it will look for the whole piece. This was made by using spare pieces of MDF board. I used wood glue to attach the pieces together. To create the desired wood effect, I will proceed to paint over the MDF to create the wood effect I want.
The next stage was to paint the frame to look like distressed wood. I used a mixture of different tones of brown to create the wood effect. Initially, I wanted the frame to be dark to reflect the mood behind my project. I then added highlights to the initial base colour to create the distressed look. I did not want this to be neat and tidy as the aim was to give it a messy effect.
I collected some dead leaves in order to enhance the distressed and old look. The reasoning for the leaves is to replicate the abandoned building scene and the environment that the novel is set in. Once I collected these leaves, I experimented with sticking them on a corner to create an imbalance. I used hot glue to stick them on so that they became sturdy.

Developing on this, I also collected some sticks and branches to add onto the frame. This gives the frame more texture, and appears to be more disjointed.

Above, I placed the experimental frame amongst my final selection. This is to give me an idea as to what this would look like compared to the other photographs. It also gave me an indication on the spacing of my final piece.

Once I was happy with how my sample presentation was looking, I proceeded to do the same on all of the frames. I alternated the corner on each frame, so that the composition is unbalanced. Above, I printed off my final selection and placed them in the order I decided beforehand. This then gave me a visual representation of how my final piece would look like when it's mounted. I feel that the sticks that appear in the first one definitely adds texture, therefore, nearer the time to printing and mounting, I will add these later on in the process. I am happy with how this looks, as I feel that it is a simple idea that doesn't over shadow the photography itself.
